As we look forward to a new school year on the horizon, we’d like to take a second to look back on the achievements of the past year. Secretly, we’d all rather be writers for TIME.

SEPTEMBER - Second Nature takes on two fabulous new members, Chris Aguila and Ian Carr, who brighten the very darkest crevasses of our souls.

OCTOBER - We help MTV solicit other college comedy groups to submit new pilot ideas for mtvU. We promise: the only spam we’ll ever hit you with is cool spam.

NOVEMBER - The College Improv Tournament (hosted by the Chicago Improv Festival) comes back to town, and for the second year running Second Nature is the West-Coast Regional Champion!

DECEMBER - As the first semester closes, we begin official work on Fracas!. More on this later.

JANUARY - Always surprisingly foggy. Who knew LA could be so humid?

FEBRUARY - Second Nature travels to Chicago to compete in the aforementioned CIF CIT national finals, where we don’t win, but do have a darn good time. Highlights: Improvised Shakespeare at iO, the best death-based sketch show I’ve ever seen at The Annoyance, and a workshop with the awe inspiring Blaine Swen.

MARCH - SPRING BREAK! We manage to make it to San Francisco (Stopping to hang and perform with our good friends Improvability, Someone Always Dies, and Humor Force V along the way) before St. Patrick’s day shenanigans send us home a little early. We still love you though, you two troublemakers.

APRIL - It’s Fracas! time! F!VII rolls around, and although we will never believe it in the week beforehand, it is always amazing. Since we were too exhausted to post about this earlier, I’ll put this here: We owe a huge thanks to everyone who came, helped out, and performed. Workshops were great, panels were amazing, and every troupe was spectacular. We love you all, and it reminded us why we do this. Highlights included panels with the cast of the Superego podcast, as well as Ken Davitian (Borat), and Oscar Nuñez (The Office).

MAY - It’s graduation time, and Second Nature has to say a heartfelt goodbye to Nick Eliafan (Dynamic Duo) and Ben Skier (Three Amigos). We will remember you whenever a chair is tipped, or a character seems keenly aware of the metaphysical and theatrical constructs of the scene.

Well, that about sums it up, but I will take this extra space to plug auditions once again: Interested in being a part of Second Nature? Auditions will be help Sept. 10th and 11th on campus, and all USC students are invited! Be sure to check out our Auditions Page for more info.

We love you,

2N

After starting young with random improv classes, Ian hopped over the state border to learn more under the pros at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre of NYC and was lucky enough to snag an internship there his senior year. Turn around, he’s behind you!
